Today the workshop for the youth parliament took place in the Dörpschün, to which more than 80 young people accepted the invitation. The aim was to develop key points for the creation of a youth parliament in the joint municipality of Salzhausen.

It was an impressive response to the workshop: More than 80 students from the Salzhausen high school and senior high school accepted the invitation to the youth parliament workshop.

After a brief welcome by committee members and administration, the young people were presented with how the youth parliament works and is set up in other joint municipalities.

Afterwards, various topics were discussed in group work and recorded on flipcharts, including the size of the youth parliament, term of office, duties, age of the candidates, suitable place for the meetings and frequency of meetings.

After the group work, the results were presented and voted on by a show of hands by the students present. The young people agreed on almost all questions. Only on the frequency of the meetings there were discussions. 12 meetings per year were put to the vote. One group of students, however, thought that this was a lot and raised the objection that meetings would have to take place during the vacations. Finally it was decided that the youth parliament meets if necessary however at least six times per year.

Among other things, other key points were decided, such as the voting age between 13 and 21 years, the number of elected representatives (at least five, maximum 15), a seat as an advisory member in the Committee for Children, Youth, Sports, Culture and a budget of 5,000, - euros.

The draft resolution now to be prepared will be presented at the next meeting of the Committee for Children, Youth, Sports, Culture of the joint municipality of Salzhausen and then voted on in the Council of the joint municipality of Salzhausen on March 23, 2023. The meetings are open to the public and everyone is welcome to attend as a supporter. Every vote and support matters.
