This Tuesday evening, a very controversial topic was discussed in the Auetal sports hall in Garstedt. How explosive the topic is, could already be seen on the field next to the sports hall. Several tractors positioned themselves with a clear message, but what was it about?

The Bahlburg salt dome has been selected by BGE (Bundesgesellschaft für Endlagerung) as an area for developing a method for conducting representative preliminary safety studies (rvSU). At the event, Steffen Kanitz, managing director, and Dr. Sönke Reiche, head of the site search department, provided information on behalf of the BGE. Also present were representatives of the Lower Saxony Ministry of the Environment, which is responsible for nuclear supervision, and the State Office for Mining, Energy and Geology (LBEG).

The BGE thus met the demand of the municipalities of Winsen (Luhe), Salzhausen and the district to inform the citizens transparently and comprehensively.

Already when entering the sports hall it was clear that this will be a very exciting and emotional evening. One thing was quickly brought to the point, a repository in the salt dome Bahlburg is unimaginable for all present.

During the question and answer session, the citizens explained vividly what a repository would mean for our nature and the environment and also asked critical questions - what would become of our village structures and what a repository would mean for our economic area in general.

Many homeowners also fear a massive loss in the value of their real estate and property values.

This first information event provided a comprehensive picture of the work done to date and the further steps planned. Future events will then report on new findings as well as on the work and provide transperent information.

Out of my own interest, I will also attend the future events and provide information here. Further information is available at www.salzstock-bahlburg.de
